Having watched the major transformation of a relative’s house over the last two years, it is unblievable how many different areas needed the expertise of a truly well experienced builder and decorator. They need to have the tact of an angel, the persistance of a bulldog and the energy of racer. So many times they will be called in to give an estimate and then a full quote for remodelling one or two rooms and gradually the family realise that if they move this window, or that door, then this room can become another sitting room / bedroom / study and so the project extends.
I am reminded here of a splendid example of a job growing like Topsey. The original call out was for someone with plumbing experience who could repair or replace a split shower tray that was sleaking in an ensuite. Two years and many thousands of pounds later, the original ensuite is fully repaired; the end bedroom is now a fully fitted and brilliantly designed nursery; the dining room that was rather oddly placed as far away from the kitchen as was possible, is now nicely situated next to the food prep and the utility room with noisy white goods and three equally noisy dogs is now nestled serenely at the far end of the house, with direct access to the working parts of the garden and exit route for walkies. The kitchen is a masterpiece of rebuild and ingenuity with the beams still available for looks as well as structural integrity. The fantastic builder/project manager seemed to have some inbuilt vision that could imagine an end to the chaotic sccenes. The finished product is so incredible that we all just swallow up the reflected glory whenever there is a family meet up.
